12,000 SCOUTS AT SUNCHEON FOR JAMBOREE

Before an excited crowd of 12,000 Scouts from 40 countries around the world, Regional Chairman Jejomar Binay and the Vice Speaker of the Korean Parliament and Acting President of WSPU Hon. Chung Eui-Hwa delivered their congratulatory messages at the opening ceremony of the 27th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree. The lively ceremony was held at the lush green pine valley of Suncheon Asia-Pacific Scout Centre in Suncheon City, Korea in the evening of 4th August. Among the special guests were the Deputy Minister of Korea for Gender, Equality and Family Mr Kim Kyo-Sik, the Mayor of Suncheon city Mr Rho Kwan-Kyu, President of KSA Dr Kang Young-Joung, and First Vice Chairman of Regional Scout Committee Mr Prakorb Mukura.

Hundreds of white balloons symbolizing peace and harmony were released as the Jamboree logo was lighted. Famous Korean dances and music invigorated the rest of the ceremony as thousands of voices filled the air with excitement. Around the Jamboree site, participants pitched their tents along the mountain slopes in what appeared like rice field terraces overlooking the campsite arena at the valley. The area is surrounded with pine trees giving participants unique camping bases. The Jamboree programme is centered around six promises under the titles Environment Jamboree, Scout and Method, Social Contribution, Progressive Scheme and Patrol System, Scout Programme, International and Global.

At the APR Village, participants can visit the typical Global Development Village with the APR Centre as part of the active activity centre. As in the last APR Jamboree in 2009, Gerakan Pramuka/ Indonesia once again has the largest overseas contingent, followed by the Thai Contingent. Before the Jamboree opening, the Mayor of Suncheon City hosted a grand reception dinner for the heads of contingents and dignitaries where well wishes were expressed for the success of the Jamboree and for Scouting in Korea.

Brunei Muara District Scout Association will be sending a five-member delegation to this year's 27th Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Scout Jamboree 2010 and the third International Patrol Jamboree in

South Korea

. Slated for August 4 to 9, the event will be held at the Scout Training Centre in Jeolla Province, Suncheon, and is considered to be the largest scout jamboree in the Asia-Pacific region. Four participants consisting of two Venture Scouts and two Junior Scouts to be led by a scout leader will represent the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) for PPDBM at the jamboree. The association explained that the scout leaders will be briefed and assigned their responsibilities before the jamboree participants enter the camping grounds. Leading the Brunei Scout contingent is Ngu Yuh Wu, who shared that the contingent would bring local souvenirs and items from the Sultanate to be introduced to fellow scouts from across the globe at the jamboree.

"We will exchange knowledge about each other's culture and tradition at the Jamboree, so we hope to introduce

to the world there," he said. The contingent leader, who would make his first ever visit to

Korea

, was also looking forward to gaining experience in scouting events on the international level. The jamboree will teach its participants survival skills while developing their character and personalities as well as leadership skills. Themed, "(Warak) Scout! Embrace the Earth", the participants will experience various ways of taking care of the environment and learn how to "embrace the earth with love". The regional event will see a number of activities such as cultural, eco-friendly and adventurous programmers, which include rafting, jet-skiing and hiking.

The 27th APR Scout Jamboree 2010 is one of the many events organised by Korea Scout Association for Regional which bring members of 25 countries within the Asia Pacific Region, said a statement from PPNBD. "It is hoped that solidarity within APR and brotherhood among the scouts in APR countries can be fostered, and at the same time make opportunity for cultural exchange, meetings with people from all over the world and learning to take care of the environment through the principles of Scout Promise and the Scout Law," it added. A ceremony to hand over the national flag to the contingent was held at the PPNBD Headquarters in Beribi yesterday. CEREMONIAL COURSE FOR CUB SCOUTS LEADERS

The Brunei Darussalam Scouts Federation through the National Scouts Training Team with the cooperation of the Co-Curriculum Education Department, Ministry of Education, yesterday organised a ceremonial course for scouts leaders and their assistants for the national cub scouts team at the Saturn Hall of the Panglima Baruddin Primary School in Limau Manis. Some 25 scouts leaders and their assistants attended the one-day course that was conducted by Awg Zainudin Hj Ishak, the Scouts Executive Officer as the Scouts Trainer who is also the Secretary for the National Scouts Training Team. The course was intended to provide better understanding on the procedures and management operations on the ceremony for cub scouts while at the same time boost their confidence with regards to the operations so that they would be able to dissemenate the concept of leadership among the scouts members. The highlight of the course was the ceremonial appointment of the cub scouts and the presentation of membership badges to some 18 cub scouts of the 1076 team, Panglima Baruddin Primary School led by the Scouts Chief Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam's Scouts Federation, Hj Awg Badar Hj Awg Ali. Also in attendance were the school's head master, Cikgu Marali Hj Abd Karim, who is also the leader of the cub scouts 1076 team and other guests, as well as parents and guardians.

The 7th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Leaders Summit was ceremonially inaugurated by H.H Dr Hansraj Bhardwaj, Governor of Karnataka State, India at Atria Hotel in Bangalore on 24th June 2010. More than 130 prominent Scout leaders from 22 countries in the Asia-Pacific Regional and 3 countries outside the region participated, making this summit the largest gathering since 1993. Bharat Scout & Guides National Chief Commissioner L.M Jain welcomed the delegates. The Summit is a regional event with the main purpose of regional strategic planning as well as to prepare for the forth coming World Scout Conference in Brazil in 2011.

Four members of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association yesterday left the country to attend the 7th AsiaPacific Regional Scout Leaders Summit, which will be held from June 24-27 in Bangalore, India, hosted by the World Scout Bureau Asia-Pacific Regional with the Bharat Scouts & Guides. The Brunei Scout contingent is led by HajiAwang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali, Chief Commissioner, and the members include Haji Mohd Zali bin Haji Arsad, Deputy Chief Commissioner, Haji Ismail bin Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Setia Haji Awang Abdul Hapidz, International Commissioner and Abdul Manan bin Haji Abdul Latip, Public Relation and Publication Commissioner. Among the objectives of the summit are to analyse the developments in the region since the 6th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Leaders Summit in 2009 in Nepal, identify challenges, provide directions for Asia-Pacific Regional Vision beyond 2013 and identify focus areas for the period 2012-2015 and to provide input for the 39th World Scout Conference 2011 in Curitiba, Brazil

Korea Scout Association is hosting the 27th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree in connjuction with its 3rd International Patrol Jamboree at the jamboree site in Suncheon, Jeolla Province, Korea on 4th-9th August 2010. The registration for the jamboree fee is US$200.00 which includes food, tentage, activities, jamboree souvenirs, insurance and inland trasportation between the airport and jamboree site.

Juga hadir dimajlis berkenaan ialah Yang Dipertua Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam, Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Ali Haji Mohd Daud serta beberapa pesuruhjaya ibu pejabat dan pesuruhjaya pengakap daerah.

The new scout members during the closing ceremony of the 6th PPDBM Orientation Camp 2010

Over 162 young members of the Brunei Muara District Scout Association have completed the three-day and two-night 6th orientation camp held near its PPNBD Headquarters in Gadong. The closing ceremony of the camp was held at the campsite yesterday afternoon (22/03/2009). The guest of honour was Haji Badar bin Haji Ali, Chief Commissioner of Brunei Scout Association who gave a speech on the responsibilities of scout members to the students.

In an interview with Skipper Awang Haji Majid bin Haji Tengah, Brunei Muara District Scout Commissioner, he said that the aim of the camp was to provide the new members with experience and to expose them to a scout's life. The orientation camp was also part of the association's annual activity. Throughout the whole camping event, the new scout members carried out plenty of activities and were accompanied by 10 assistant committees and head scout officers.

Families and friends gathered at the Brunei International Airport yesterday to wish 'good luck' to a six-member contingent from Brunei Scout Association (PPNBD) who are scheduled to attend the 26th Asia-Pacific Region Scout Jamboree 2009 at Mt Makiling, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines from December 27, 2009 until January 2, 2010. HQ Scout Commissioner - Special Task for Membership Growth, Awg Hj Mohammed Hj Ali, is leading the group assisted by Siti Noorafidah Dollah the Tunas Jaya PGGMB, Lambak Scout Leader. The 26th Asia-Pacific Region Scout Jamboree will bring together 25 countries from the Asia-Pacific region with 8,000 members expected to participate. The jamboree will be officiated by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the Philippines tomorrow. Those who were present at the airport saw the handing over of the flag by Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Raja Dato Seri Paduka Hj Awg Mohd Ali Hj Awg Md Daud, the President of PPNBD, to the contingent's leader before their flight to the Philippines yesterday.

The other PPNBD contingent members are Md Mirza Hadi Hj Md Azmi from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, Norfaizrin Sofri of Muda Hashim Secondary School Tutong, Siti Nur Nazariah Abdullah from Awang Semaun Secondary School and Nurul Safwanah Zainuddin of Pengiran Anak Puteri Hjh Masna Secondary School. Eight schools from two districts of Brunei participated in the first ever National Rovebo Camping event, which came to an end yesterday with a closing ceremony held at the Berakas Forest Reserve, marking the end of a three-day adventure that commenced on December 3. Rovebo, which means Rover, Venture and Boy, consisted of three units under the Brunei Darussalam Scout Association as well as eight groups comprising six groups from the Brunei-Muara district and two groups from the Belait district. The theme of the camping trip was 'Together Withstand'.

The objectives of the trip were to strengthen the existing relationship between scout troops of Brunei, expose existing talent amongst members of each group, create public awareness regarding the importance of the natural environment and maintaining the natural habitat, as well as to increase the mental and physical health of all participating members through various activities. The eight schools that participated in Rovebo Camping were Rimba Secondary School, Masin Secondary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School, Awang Semaun Secondary School, Sayiddina Hassan Secondary School, Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College and Troop Kg Sungai Liang.

Officiating the closing ceremony was Director of Technical Education, Ministry of Education, Pg Suhaimi bin Pengiran Hj Bakar, who was also the guest of honours. The guest of honour took the opportunity to present prizes to the overall winners of the activities. Rising as the champion was Troop 1017 Science College, followed by first runner-up, which was Troop 1036 Awang Semaun Secondary School, and the second-runner up, Troop Kg Sungai Liang.

25th October 2009, Kuala Lumpur - The seven-day Asia-Pacific Region Course for Leader Trainers held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia concluded on 25th October 2009 providing the participants with knowledge, skills and innovations that are appropriate and applicable to the needs of trainers in their respective National Scout Organizations. The training course, which is the highest level of training of trainers also served as a medium in strengthening the existing bonds and good relationship among Asia-Pacific Scouters and Leaders, had 40 participants including the overseas trainers comprised of Paul Parkinson (Australia), Reiko Suzuki (Japan), Andrew Hill (United Kingdom), Warren Edis (Canada), Noor Hashim bin Ismail (Malaysia) and Lau Hoi Lin (Malaysia).

The main highlight of the 6th APR Scout Youth Forum was the election of new batch of the Young Adult Members Group (YAMG) for the period of 2009-2012. Youth forum participants elected seven representatives of the YAMG. They are Maeedh Mohamed Zahir of Maldives as the new Chairman, Lam Kwok Hei Dicky of Hong Kong, Ari Wijanarko Adipratomo of Indonesia, Seo Ji Eun of Korea, Mohd Hafiz Bin Ariffin of Malaysia, Oliver Lim Zi Kai of Singapore and Krittee Tantivisitkul of Thailand. Current YAMG were Manabu Hiratsuka of Japan as the Chairman and members Nikketah Cuneo (Australia), Sarah Ho Wing Kei (Singapore), Muller Bato (Philippines), Karma Choden (Bhutan) and Rio Ashadi (Indonesia).

Consistent to the World Scout Conference Resolution, “YAMG Induction" for the newly elected Young Adult Members Group (2009-2012) was organized. This "YAMG Induction" was a new initiative where in key leaders of the region were given a briefing session on the role and task of the new set of YAMG. Iswandy Ahmad reflects on his experiences as a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador for Positive Living. I participated in the recently held 9th ‘International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific’ (ICAAP) in Bali from August 9 – 13, 2009. It aimed at addressing issues of mobility, migration, gender and people with disabilities in order to empower the people and strengthen networks to effectively respond to the challenge posed by HIV/AIDS. This year’s theme was ‘Empowering People & Strengthening Network’. True to its theme, it was attended by more than 4,000 delegates including government officials, NGOs, World Health Organisation (WHO), stakeholders, donors, health givers, caretakers, professionals, volunteers and in fact all those involved in making a difference in this line. Being a youth, I joined the pre-congress youth forum held on 7th and 8th August. Other forums also ran concurrently (people living with HIV, migrants, sex workers, women, and people who use drugs etc). During the forum, the major discussion was about youth participation in this field and implementing comprehensive sex education in our own countries. It has been long thought that sex is a matter that shouldn’t be talked about and ‘sex education’ only teaches young people how to have sex. Yet, that is only a misconception. Depending on a country’s background, it includes knowledge & understanding about female & male organs, functions & processes of the body, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), sexual dysfunction, abuses and diseases e.g. breast cancer, prostate cancer etc

WANA BRUNEI'S FIRST FEMALE CHOPPER PILOT

"I'm really flying!" That thought echoed in the pilot's mind as the helicopter took off into the warm Florida skies. Four years later, Dayang Siti Saffawana Hj Suhaili, or Wana, could still recall her first 30-minute solo flight as if it were just yesterday. "When the helicopter was taking off, I couldn't help but think this was my biggest achievement in life," she said. "It was also really nerve-wracking because I also kept thinking about how I could fly and land safely but it was a great experience," she said. The line pilot spent 54 weeks training at Helicopter Adventures Incorporated in Florida before returning to Brunei for her contract signing with Brunei Shell Petroleum.

Wana marks her entry as the first female helicopter pilot to work in BSP, and the first female helicopter pilot in Brunei. Her journey with the company began in early 2005 after completing her A-Levels at the Science College in the Brunei-Muara District. "I didn't want to just go and study at a university. I have always wanted to do something different. Then I saw a BSP ad for helicopter pilot trainees in the newspaper. But when I saw it was for male pilots only, it really challenged me so I decided to go for it," said Wana.

The fresh school leaver spoke with the interviewers and persuaded them to grant her a spot at the assessment centre. "I was really persistent because I thought girls could do demanding jobs like this too." She added there is nothing limiting women today and that ambition and imagination goes a long way in pursuing careers in fields like aviation. Wana returned to Brunei before a two-year assignment with Bristow Helicopters Ltd at Aberdeen, United Kingdom. Part of her two-year training in Bristow entailed long hours flying offshore workers to and from rigs in the North Sea. "Being new to the place, I had to get to know the area and people better. For one thing, you can never underestimate the North Sea. There are no cutting corners while flying there," she said. The unpredictable and harsh weather conditions often tested her flying skills. "I was always thinking about how to get my passengers to their destinations safely. I flew through everything; pitch black darkness on night flights, winter rain, snow, fog, so I learned to do things efficiently," she said.

On returning to work in BSP after her assignment this year, Wana explained that the company's values resonated with her own. "I wanted to work in BSP because I know it is one of the world's leading companies, especially in safety. I'm a big believer of safety in the workplace. I can contribute to the business with the training and experience that I've had and I see myself flying in BSP for a long time." Jonathan Phillips, Head of Aircraft Services, said Wana would now begin familiarising herself with BSP aviation procedures. "The operating environment here is different from North Sea in terms of weather and the distances we fly. Severe weather occurs less frequently in Brunei but our pilots must know what to do when it happens."

Wana's colleague who went through selection and training with her, is still in the UK following the same progression path, and will be returning later in the year. Meanwhile, five trainees are following in her footsteps, and will be commencing their work assignments in the UK shortly - amongst them another female pilot.

EMPOWERING YOUNG ADULTS: GUIDELINES FOR THE ROVER SCOUT DISTRICT

The Youth Programme in Scouting covers the complete span of a young person's experience in the Scout Movement. It starts when the youngest members join the Scout Movement, typically somewhere between the ages of six and eight, and ends when the oldest members leave, usually between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five. It is a progressive process of education and personal development through largely recreational means.

As any Youth Programme in Scouting the Rover Scout Programme is the totality of: the reason why it is done (the purpose and aims), how it is done (through the Scout Method) and what young adults do in the Rover Scout Section (the activities). These Rover Scout Guidelines are divided in three main sections: Why, How and What.

In the chapters of these guidelines the different elements of the “Why” (purpose and aims), the “How” (Scout Method) and the “What” (activities) are adapted to the Rover Scout Programme, as follows:

Section 1 - “WHY”
Chapter 1 - Purpose and aims of the Rover Scout Section. Providing young adults with opportunities to undertake their personal development through the six areas of growth. Helping the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
Chapter 2 - Who are the Rover Scouts: Characteristics and needs of young adults. The Rover Scout Programme must be based on the characteristics and needs of young adults and the fundamental elements of Scouting. Each association must find the most suitable method to take in consideration the characteristics of their own young people when building the Rover Scout programme.

Section 2 - “HOW”
Chapter 3 - Law and Promise. A conscious commitment to the way the Rover Scout chooses to live his/her life, according to a value system proposed by the Scout Law, and a promise to do his/her best to achieve that.
Chapter 4 – Learning by doing. Learning by doing reflects Scouting’s active approach to education. This includes the many different experiences young adults have as members of the Rover Scout community: learning from the roles they play, the responsibilities they have as well as the activities they choose and realize.
Chapter 5 - Team system. The Team System is more than a structure; it is another educational opportunity provided by Scouting. It allows insights into group dynamics, leadership, and participation. Adults take on the role of advisors and facilitators.
Chapter 6 - Symbolic Framework. The concept of the ’road‘, the ’route‘, the ‘journey’ is often used to illustrate Rover Scouting. Rover Scouting is a journey towards adulthood. The symbolic framework highlights mobility and the new things that we discover when moving from one place to another; it matches with the natural desire of young adults to travel, to discover new realities and perspectives and meet new people.
Chapter 7 - Nature. Nature provides the perfect setting for a considerable number of Rover Scout activities: it challenges our abilities, gives us the opportunity to consider respect for and protection of the environment; it enables to develop physical skills or an adventurous spirit and to enjoy the experience of the spiritual dimension.
Chapter 8 - Educational objectives and personal progression. The progressive scheme values the acquisition of skills and knowledge, which will facilitate direct access to adult roles and the acceptance of responsibility in society. It is a way of measuring the stage of personal development (towards the agreed educational objectives) and of acknowledging the “tools” each one has acquired to help them to deal with the challenges they will face.
Chapter 9 - Adult Support. Adult support and the relationship between Rovers Scouts and their leaders is an important part of Scouting. Adults in the Rover Scout section are facilitators or advisors. They help Rover Scouts to live meaningful experiences that contribute to their full development, walking with them rather than pushing or pulling.

Section 3 - “WHAT”
Chapter 10 - Activities in the Rover Scout section. Activities provide fun, adventure and challenges for young adults, leading to the development of skills for life. The activities in the Rover Scout section put special focus on active travelling and multicultural experiences, adventures in the wilderness, community service, and social and economic integration.

Seramai 102 pemimpin dan penolong pemimpin pasukan pengakap dari seluruh negara menerima waran pelantikan mereka pada Majlis Penyampaian Waran kepada Pemimpin dan Penolong Pemimpin Pasukan Pengakap di Dewan Serba guna Ibu Pejabat Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam (PPNBD) pada Hari Jumaat 3 April 2009. Yang hadir untuk menyampaikan waran kepada penerima ialah Ketua Pesuruhjaya Pengakap Negara, Haji Badar Haji Ali yang dalam ucapan beliau menyatakan visi PPNBD menjelang 2013 ialah mempunyai seramai 10,000 anggota pengakap.

Pasukan itu sekali gus akan menjadi pergerakan belia yang utama dalam menyediakan program yang mencabar serta membangunkan kecemerlangan belia dan akan memainkan peranan penting dalam pembangunan bangsa. Beliau juga berkata visi PPNBD adalah selaras dengan visi Kementerian Pendidikan untuk menyediakan pendidikan yang menyeluruh untuk semua bagi mencapai potensi yang maksimum. Katanya dalam Sistem Pendidikan Negara Abad Ke-21 (SPN 21) jelas menunjukkan terdapat pelbagai program pendidikan yang dirancang dan dilaksanakan dan salah satu adalah pelaksanaan pendidikan kokurikulum. Beliau menerangkan harapan Menteri Pendidikan adalah supaya kegiatan kokurikulum yang terancang dan lebih teratur akan dijadikan medan untuk menanam dan memupuk pelbagai kemahiran yang diperlukan untuk mencapai hasrat kementerian.

Sehubungan itu kegiatan kokurikulum sudah menjadi kriteria wajib dalam pertimbangan untuk mendapatkan biasiswa di dalam dan luar negara, menyertai kursus di institusi pengajian tinggi dan juga untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan. Majlis diteruskan dengan penyampaian waran kepada 102 penerima oleh Haji Badar yang diikuti dengan lafaz Persetiaan Pengakap dan Ikrar Aku Janji oleh penerima waran. Waran atau tauliah surat kuasa yang dikeluarkan Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam kepada pemimpin dan penolong pasukan pengakap adalah sebagai tanda pengiktirafan bagi menjalankan tugas mereka dalam pasukan pengakap di sekolah masing-masing. Dengan memiliki waran itu seorang pemimpin atau penolong pemimpin mendapat perlindungan insurans daripada PPNBD sekiranya berlaku kemungkinan yang tidak diingini terhadap diri dan juga anggota pengakap di bawah pimpinan mereka. Mereka juga mempunyai tanggungjawab untuk memastikan kelancaran kegiatan dan memajukan pergerakan pengakap di Brunei dan juga di dunia.

"Scouting is not a waste of time. It contributes to academic success," said a Ministry of Education official. In Singapore, top students attributed their academic success to their enrolment with scouts who taught them to be prepared, self reliant and disciplined, skills formed as the core value of scouts making them to be well-prepared for exams and lead a disciplined life, said Co-Curriculum Department Director Cikgu Arsad Hj Adis. The very reason, he said, why in the not-too-distant future, the Ministry of Education will oblige students to enrol in least one uniformed club, be it in scouts, police cadets, girl guides or others.

The Department of Co-Curriculum is ready to assist the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association to achieve its goal of enlisting 10,000 members, a vision the nation's scouting association is set to reach by 2013, said the director. At the moment, there are only 1,018 scout members nationwide. It is a far cry from the 10,000-mark set by the 70-year-old scout association which was registered with the Boys Scouts Association in London in 1939, he said.

He spoke during the closing ceremony of a three-night camping activity by the members of the Brunei-Muara District scouts. Today, there are 407 scout members with 44 leaders in Brunei-Muara District, 185 scout members with five leaders in Tutong District, 160 scout members and five leaders in Belait District and 51 scout members with 11 leaders in Temburong District, he said. The department is ready to help the scouts to make the impossible (of reaching 10,000 members) into a possibility. No, the ministry is not limiting girls from joining any of the uniformed clubs. With efforts such as this, it is hoped that more people will join the uniformed clubs, he said.

The Director of Co-Curriculum congratulated over 200 participants for successfully enhancing their skills, in particular their survivability skill. He said, this is the type of skills, which the Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Hj Mohamed in the past had stressed as an important aspect to prepare citizens to cope during critical times, for example, the time experienced by the nation in trying to cope with a spate of floods and landslides.
It is the aspiration of the Ministry of Education, he said, to provide a well-rounded education for Brunei students, a good balance between a formal academic studies and co-curriculum activities.
Co-Curriculum activities such as the boy scouts, teaches students to do well in academics, he said, adding that in Singapore, it was the discipline that taught them to prepare well for the examinations. Therefore, he said, scouting activity is not a waste of time.

Some 235 scout members and leaders from 10 secondary schools and colleges in the Brunei-Muara District took part in the camping.

Where: The International Children’s Center “Nairamdal” of Mongolia. About 35 kilometers north-west from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia

Who: The Jamboree is open to both boy and girl scouts and girl guides who are at least 12 years old and adult leaders who are registered as member of their National Scout /Guide Organization.There are about 1200 boys and girls expected to attend Jamboree, including 1000 Mongolian scouts and scout leaders as well as 200 overseas participants.

Program highlights: The Mongolian 4th Jamboree program highlights are a chance to Mongolian and overseas participants to exchange their experiences and to let scouts learn about Mongolian culture and history. There will be various kinds of interesting activities organized every day.We would like to give everyone as much opportunitly as possible to meet people from other cultures and from the local community, as well as to enable them to participate in interesting and stimulating activities.

A registration fee of US $160 shall be charged each member to cover the cost of meals, souvenir items and other issuances, and transportation from the airport to camp and back.

Home hospitality: After and before the Jamboree, Scouts from overseas will be offered Home Hospitality for up to 2-3 days in the families of Mongolian Scouts.

Food: Food will be serving to each troop. Meat is found in all Mongolian meals, usually with noodles, rice and soup. Please let us know if any members of your contingent are vegetarians or have dietary requirements at your registration.

Payment: The fee for participant is US$ 200, which covers food, souvenirs, inland transportation and insurance. Overseas contingents are encouraged to pay the Jamboree fee to the Scout Association of Mongolia not later then 1 June 2009.

Visa: All participants should obtain an entry visa before traveling to Mongolia from the Mongolian Embassy or Consulate in most capital cities. Visas may also be obtained upon arrival at the Mongolian border or internetional airport.

Venue:Trang National Scout Camp or “Thai Chalerm Prakiat Scout Camp” located at Huay-Yod District, Trang Province, the south of Thailand, about 828 kilometres from Bangkok.The Camp compound with a beautiful natural scene of hillside and 2 lakes on the area of 2,000 rais (800 acres) which enough to accommodate 10,000 scouts and suitable to do adventure and water activities.Trang is a famous province in its cultural heritage, the mix of Chino-Protugese and Thai with its long, beautiful coastline by Andaman Sea with numerous fascinating beaches, caves, islands, mountains and waterfalls.For visitors interested in adventure, you will have the remarkable experienceif you visit the outstanding tourist attractions such as the Emerald Cave whichaccessible by only water sea, Ko Petra National Park which some of the divesites are world-class, Trang Hot Spring etc.

Eligibility:Open for young scouts and guides age between 12 – 17 years old who apply through their National Scout Associations (should apply in a patrol which comprise of 9 scouts + 1 leader). We expect to have 9,500 participants both Thai and overseas in this Jamboree.

Camp Fee:US$ 100 per person (both Scout and leader)The fee will cover all meals during camp (from dinner of 24th April 2009 to Breakfast of 1st May 2009), tent accommodation, activities programme, Jamboree souvenirs, Insurance and transportation (from Krabi Airport, Phuket Airport, Trang Bus Terminal or Trang train Terminal)

The Foundation Management Committee was represented by Vice-President Skipper Haji Zainal Abidin bin Penghulu Haji Ibrahim. Also present at the event were Regional Scout Committee Vice-Chairman Mohammed Ali Khalid, Committee Members Dr Mohammed Mukhyuddin and Oh Sang Gyoon, Finance Sub-Committee Chairman Horace Ho and some national leaders of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

Scouting officials and the business community gathered in a fundraising cocktail held on 16th January 2009 at the Makati Shangri-La, Makati City, Philippines to raise funds for the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Foundation. The Foundation supports communities in developing countries in the region through community-based development projects. Former World Scout Committee Chairman Francisco S Roman thanked the business community for making time in their busy schedules and shared the foundation's goal to continuously build capital funds through membership recruitment to support more projects that would create positive impact on communities. The fundraising event raised US$12,200 in cash and pledges. Chairman Binay set an example by upgrading his membership with an additional US$5,000. Among the other donors are Metro Bank Foundation, Mr and Mrs Scott Teare from Boy Scouts of America, Makati City Vice-Mayor Ernesto Mercado, Philippine Postal Corporation, Dr William Wells, Hidenori Nishimaki and Regional Treasurer Dr Renato Paras.

The Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association yesterday established a committee at its headquarters to raise money for the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund, which was set up by His Majesty's Government on January 14. Chief Commissioner of Scouts Awang Haji Badar bin Haji Awang Ali, in his opening remarks, said, "This is not the first time the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association is involved in such an activity. We collected funds, clothing and food for typhoon victims in Bangladesh and quake victims in Yogyakarta as well as sent five members to distribute contribution we collected to tsunami-struck Aceh. " Within the country, we work with other government agencies to provide contribution and support to the needy. " He hoped that members of the public will make contributions to ease the burden of the Palestinians.

Objektif Rovermoot adalah memupuk semangat berpengakap (scouting spirit) dan berkelana (rovering) dikalangan ahli-ahli pengakap kelana dengan membina silaturrahim dan mengukuhkan perpaduan sesama ahli kelana dengan masyarakat menerusi aktiviti-aktiviti bersama kearah melahirkan warga muda yang mempunyai jatidiri yang mantap dan sahsiah yang mulia sesuai dengan pembentukan modal insan berkualiti dan berdaya maju. Melahirkan Pengakap Kelana yang bekebolehan.

Moot ini bermula pada 1 Mei 2009 hingga 4 Mei 2009 yang akan diadakan di Kem Damai Kampong Seri Damai Kuantan, Pahang. Bayaran berjumlah USD $50.00 bagi Kelana Luar Negeri (sebelum 31 Mac 2009) dan USD 70.00 (seterusnya) Peserta akan diberi T-shirt, skaf Rovermoot, lencana, Tanda nama dan sijil penyertaan.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 31/12/2008 - Acara Menurunkan Bendera Khas dan Penutupan Rasmi Sambutan Jubli Intan 75 tahun Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam yang diadakan di Bangunan Ibu Pejabat Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam, Jalan Gadong. Ketua Pesuruhjaya Pengakap Skipper Haji Badar bin Haji Ali di dalam ucapan beliau menyatakan bahawa PPNBD mempunyai VISI untuk mempunyai 10 ribu ahli menjelang tahun 2013 dan akan menjadi penggerak belia yang utama di dalam menyediakan program-program mencabar dan membina kecemerlangan di kalangan remaja yang memainkan peranan penting di dalam pembangunan bangsa.

Beliau menyatakan bahawa untuk mencapai VISI itu memerlukan tanggungjawab dan komitmen semua anggota pengakap dan juga sokongan serta dorongan dari masyarakat dan kerajaan. Menyentuh mengenai acara-acara sambutan 75 tahun penubuhan PPNBD, Haji Badar berkata pelbagai acara diadakan untuk memeriahkan acara sambutan termasuk acara Cubboree Negara Brunei Darussalam yang disertai oleh lebih 690 peserta dari luar dan dalam negara. Acara perkhemahan Alam Sekitar Pengakap Kelana juga diadakan dan semasa perkhemahan sebanyak 400 pokok ditanam di kawasan seluas 1 hektar di kawasan Sungai Mau Daerah Belait.

Majlis diakhiri dengan upacara menurunkan bendera khas sambutan Jubli Intan 75 Tahun Berpengakap di Negara Brunei Darussalam oleh wakil setiap Unit Pengakap Tunas, Pengakap Muda, Pengakap Remaja dan Pengakap Kelana PPNBD dan bendera diserahkan kepada Skipper Haji Badar bin Haji Ali.
